Percocet combines the opioid oxycodone with acetaminophen and is prescribed for the management of acute pain severe enough to require an opioid analgesic.

Follow the prescribed schedule precisely. Do not crush or dissolve tablets. Taper under supervision rather than stopping abruptly after prolonged use.

Common: drowsiness, constipation, nausea, itching. Seek emergency help for shallow breathing, confusion or blue-tinged lips.

Schedule II — no refills. Concurrent use with benzodiazepines or alcohol can be fatal. Acetaminophen hepatotoxicity risk above 4,000 mg per day.
