Tramadol is a centrally acting analgesic prescribed for moderate to moderately severe pain in adults. It binds weakly to mu-opioid receptors and also inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin.

Take exactly as prescribed. Do not exceed the dose or duration your prescriber set. Swallow extended-release tablets whole — never crush, split or chew them.

Common: dizziness, nausea, constipation, headache, drowsiness. Seek urgent care for seizures, serotonin syndrome, difficulty breathing, or signs of an allergic reaction.

Risk of addiction, abuse and misuse. Do not combine with alcohol, other opioids, benzodiazepines or MAO inhibitors. Increased seizure risk. Not for children under 12.
